Mark on hosting “Comics for the Cause…”
Hosting is a totally different energy than just simply performing on a show. It’s the host’s responsibility to welcome everyone and set the stage for a fantastic comedy event. I thoroughly enjoyed it! We started the show a little late – so it was important to hit them hard and get the crowd laughing right away. Then, establishing a flow and moving the show along smoothly. What a magical night!
The energy in the theater was very high. I remember thinking, “This crowd is ready to rock.” Suddenly, the lights dimmed and a Voice of God intro brought me up. “Ladies and gentleman, comic-singer-songwriter MARK EDDIE!” I did a 10-15 minute monologue up front then introduced the representatives from The Youth Foundation. Jerry Citarella and Kim Goldman took the stage, made a few remarks and thanked everyone for their support. JAY LENO was first on the line-up, and he totally killed! Then, after a short segue, I introduced ALONZO BODDEN. The Last Comic Standing Champion won the crowd over in moments and finished his set strong. I came back on stage and noticed the audience was energized and wanting more. Man, I was thanking Heaven that I have an A-game at this moment. I talked briefly about my kids and then brought up one of my favorite comedians, TAMMY PESCATELLI. Tammy’s a pro and her straight-forward style and shear likability shined through – the crowd loved her! JOHN HEFFRON closed the show with an amazing set. John came out with some new material and a few classic bits from his four Comedy Central Specials. The result was an audience in tears of laughter. I closed the show by thanking everyone for coming out and looking forward to next year – it’s going to be a tough one to top.
